We regret to report the death on 16 December 1996, of Quentin Bell, Professor of the History and Theory of Art at Sussex between 1967 and 1976. He was a major figure in the life of the University, and he and his wife, Anne Olivier Bell, received honorary doctorates from Sussex in September 1993.
