Wee poms
Drs Al Thomson and Lani Russell from CCE have been honing their media skills over the last few months, as part of an oral history research project on 'ten pound poms' who found a new life in Australia was not to their liking and came back to Britain.

Al and Lani have done any number of broadcast interviews and have appeared frequently in the press. But when their search took them to Scotland, the duo finally hit the big time, with none other than the Alloa & Hillfoots Wee County News printing their appeal for returnees to get in touch.

Is the Alloa & Hillfoots Big County News out there somewhere?

Brighton cool and London lost
The Sunday Times Good University Guide, published in September, offers a 'student view' from Toby Rumford, this year's President of the Students' Union.

Toby's rather lame response to a question about the University's worst feature suggests he harbours ambitions to pursue a career as a diplomat: "The campus is in a valley and everything is on a slope," was the most damning he could offer.

Asked to describe the typical Sussex student, Toby came up with "trendy, 'Brighton cool' and 'London lost' types". In time-honoured Bulletin tradition, a bottle of bubbly is on offer for the best dictionary definition of each of these terms - or for conclusive, photographic evidence of either Sussex type.
