Sport at Sussex

SportscentreFirst the Fire Brigade used it for a recruitment fair. Then Sussex Police took it over for use as the anti-terrorist command HQ during the Labour party conference. Now the emergency services have evacuated the Sportcentre, it will be good to see some sport taking place there once more.

Early birds get a discount
Sign up for a Sport Service course before Sunday 8 October and receive a £2.50 reduction. (Certain exceptions apply: please check with reception when you book.) You can book over the phone on ext. 8228 with a credit card. For course details, see www.sussex.ac.uk/Units/sport/.



Intra-mural soccer

  • 5-a-side (indoor) on Thursdays from 2.00-4.00pm at the Sportcentre. £15 per team plus £20 loyalty deposit. Sign up by Monday 16 October, first game Thursday 19 October.

  • 6-a-side (outdoor) on Tuesdays from 12 noon-2.00pm at the Falmer Sports Complex. £18 per team plus £20 loyalty deposit. Sign up by Friday 13 October, first game Tuesday 17 October.

Happy birthday

Tickets for top-flight basketball
Brighton Bears take on last season's league champions, the Manchester Giants, at the Brighton Centre on 14 October (7.00pm). The Sport Service is selling special promotional tickets for only £3 per head. If you can't make that match, take your University ID to the box office and get a concessionary rate of £4 for any other home fixture.

Fit for a year
For unlimited access to the Fitness Room, get a year's card - now reduced from £120 to £105 for staff and from £92 to £85 for students. Buy before Friday 20 October and receive a free programme and induction (worth £10).

Get your own back to fitness
Starting on Monday 23 October, the Sport Service is offering new back-to-fitness exercise classes for sufferers of back problems. The fitness instructor is supported by a physiotherapist, who will provide a one-hour pre-course consultation to assess your suitability.
