From Physics to ….ologies…. Where did it all go wrong?
Thursday 12 October 13:00 until 14:00
Chichester 3 3R241
Speaker: Hugh Byrne (Dublin Institute of Technology)
Part of the series: Materials Physics seminars
Abstract: Although trained as an experimental physicist at undergraduate and postgraduate level, my research activities have meandered in recent years to include Toxicology, Histology and Cytology. The presentation outlines how a fundamental basis of physics can add much in the multidisciplinary environment of nano-bio interactions and biomedical applications of spectroscopy. It highlights the examples of understanding the interactions of light with complex physically and chemically inhomogeneous media, such as biological cells and tissue, as well as the principles underlying structure property relationships governing the interaction of nanoparticles with cells, and the cellular responses.
