Biography

I did my undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Art History at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), Johannesburg, and my masters (B.Phil.) and D.Phil. at Oxford university. My D.Phil. thesis was on Kant's transcendental Idealism, and was supervised by Quassim Cassam, Galen Strawson and Ralph Walker. Following my D.Phil I taught for three years in Oxford, before coming to Sussex, from 2004-2004. 2006-2008 were spent at Wits, and from 2008, I have a joint position between Wits and Sussex, spending the Autumn term in Sussex.

I am currently working on Kant's transcendental idealism, on the idea of nonconceptual content in relation to Kant, on the supposed contrast between transcendental and naturalistic philosophy, on the notion of forgiveness, and on retributive and restorative justice. I am interested in a broadly Kantian account of freedom of the will, which I intend to work on next.

Autumn term 2009:
