Biography

I did an undergraduate degree in French and Philosophy at Oxford (1991-5), an M.Litt. in Philosophy at St Andrews (1995-6), and a PhD in Philosophy at Leeds (1997-2001). I then spent two years teaching at the University of Lancaster and the University of East Anglia respectively, before being appointed by Sussex in 2003.

I am currently completing an AHRC-funded monograph on imagining and fiction. I have published on various aspects of the imagination, and on definitions of art. I am interested generally in aesthetics.  I am particularly interested in supervising or co-supervising research students working in the following areas: the imagination, either generally, or particularly in conjunction with fiction and the arts; the philosophy of film; definitions of art; conceptual art; issues in Aesthetics generally.
