Periodic review

Welcome to the Periodic review

In December 2010, Senate approved proposals to simplify the University’s credit framework and the structure of the academic year. It is in this context that the University agreed to a complete review of its academic portfolio to be completed in time for the 2012/13 academic session.

School Periodic Review is the third and final stage of the University’s Portfolio Review and follows the informal first two stages which involved Strategic Engagement and Curriculum Development and Enhancement.

School Periodic Reviews covers all taught and research programmes of study offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students in a School, including programmes delivered by an external partner.

The main aims of the School Periodic Review are to:

  • provide an opportunity by which the institution can, in collaboration with externals and members of the wider University community;
  • review the quality and standards of a School’s educational provision over time;
  • enable the University more broadly to audit the implementation of its policies and strategies for enhancing the student experience.

Exceptionally, this year, School Periodic Review incorporates annual monitoring and curriculum approval for all new and revised taught programmes. Embedding these two key quality assurances procedures into School Periodic Review provides the means by which the University can consider the quality and the strategic direction of its academic portfolio in a single exercise.

All documentation to support this review process can be found in the relevant School web pages as listed in the side menu. Teaching and Learning Resources to support the Periodic Review process can also be found on the side menu.
