How to request your own information

The Data Protection Act allows individuals to have access to certain information held about them and, where appropriate, to have it corrected or deleted. Such requests, known as Subject Access Requests, should be referred to the Information Officer in Planning, Governance & Compliance. There is a GBP 10 fee to cover the cost of administration as referred to in section 7.2(b) of the Act.

If you wish to make a request for information under the Data Protection Act (1998) you should make your request in writing to:

Please enclose the following:

  • The required GBP 10 fee (a cheque to be made payable to the University of Sussex)
  • Verification of your identity such as a copy of your student ID card or other formal photo ID
  • Confirmation of the address for correspondence
  • A written request containing as much information as possible to help to locate the information you require

The University will respond to your request within 40 days from receipt. We may also contact you to discuss the data that you require and the format it will be provided in.
