Promotional resources
There were resources available to staff to help them encourage students to complete the 2013 NSS.
We supplied schools with a limited supply of hard copy publicity materials, such as pens, postcards and posters. For information about this or any other issue to do with promoting the NSS at Sussex, please contact James Hakner in the internal communications team (j.m.hakner@sussex.ac.uk).
The 2014 survey will go live in sprin 2014, and promotional resources will be distributed to colleagues nearer the time.
Inappropriate influence
Please make sure that you encourage students to respond, but not how to respond. While it is appropriate for staff to remind students that they should complete the NSS and that they should consider their responses carefully, encouraging students to reflect in their answers anything other than their genuine perceptions of their experience, such as making an explicit link between the NSS, league tables and the perceived value of students’ degrees, is not acceptable.
Hard copy materials
Each school office has been sent a promotional pack that will contain:
- Posters - a selection of A3 and A4 (if you have somewhere that can display an A0 size poster, please email j.m.hakner@sussex.ac.uk). Posters should be displayed in prominent positions in buildings
- Flyers - It is envisaged that flyers would be made available/handed out in reception areas, communal areas, in lectures, seminars and teaching sessions, placed in students' pigeonholes etc
- Pens - the pens can be handed out to students in lectures, seminars and teaching sessions, made available in communal areas or handed out/sent with the NSS flyers
- Post-it notes
We only receive a limited number of these items. It is possible to print additional posters and flyers but we will only do this where it is cost effective to do so. We can also send you an electronic version (PDF) of the poster or flyer which you can print out (albeit at a lower quality) on a normal printer - contact j.m.hakner@sussex.ac.uk.
