Sussex among the best in university world rankings

The University of Sussex is ranked among the top 20 universities in the UK, in the top 50 in Europe and top 150 in the world, according to new university world rankings.

The THE-QS World University Rankings 2008, published in the Times Higher Education magazine today (Thursday 9 October) are based on scores for research excellence, the opinions of academics and recruiters and the ratio of staff to students.

University of Sussex Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Farthing says: "Sussex is holding its own in an increasingly competitive world of higher education. We are among the UK's top 20 institutions, and only 29 UK universities feature among the world's elite. This is an excellent base for our new Strategic Plan to build on and to improve our international standing still further. "

The THE-QS rankings follow on from the news that Sussex was the highest climber (from 30th to 22nd in the UK) in the Sunday Times Good University Guide league table, published in September.
