Celebrity look-alikes, male anorexia, the "open all hours" consumer culture and a glimpse into the boudoirs of ladies of the night are among the subjects featured in this year's University of Sussex Degree Show for final-year media students.

As part of their Media Practice and Theory degree studies, final-year students will exhibit final-project photographs, interactive media installations, documentaries and screen dramas at the Gardner Arts Centre at the University from 4pm on 25 April to 6pm on 26 April.

The resulting work offers a tantalising view of our modern world, tackling everything from serious issues to the quirkier side of life.

Featured exhibits includes:

  • "Tonight, Matthew...": a photo portrait tribute to celebrity look-alikes by Katie Moorman;
  • A documentary on the experiences of male anorexics by Madeline Bowers, Charlotte Critchard and Nicole Fenner;
  • Open all Hours: A landscape photography exploration of Asda and the 24-hour consumer society;
  • Invisible Bodies: a photographic study of prostitutes' bedrooms by Fiona Gaffney

Senior Lecturer in Media and Film Studies Lizzie Thynne, who oversees the BA degree course in Media Practice and Theory, says: "This is the third BA MPT degree show and we are very proud of what the students have achieved. It's clear that the degree is going from strength to strength with students producing high-quality and imaginative work across a range of forms and genres."

Participating student Rebecca Downer says: "Throughout our time at Sussex, we have challenged the stereotypical view of media degrees - although we have enjoyed watching a film or two! However, the amount of hard work, sweat and tears that goes into producing our final projects will be evident in the degree show."

Fellow student Patricia Pucci says: "This year's exhibition is a testament to the passion that we have for our subject and it is a credit to all the students and tutors involved. We hope that people will visit and enjoy the show."
