  • Bush or Kerry - what happens now?

The results of the US presidential election will have a far-reaching effect - not just for America, but also for the rest of the world.

How will the war on terrorism be affected by a Kerry or re-elected Bush administration? What will be the possible impact on the UK-US special relationship? What does the intense rivalry and animosity between the two major parties tell us about the cultural differences that divide Americans?

These questions and more will be addressed at a roundtable discussion involving senior academics from the University of Sussex's American Studies Department on Thursday, November 4 at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School lecture theatre, University of Sussex, from 4-6pm.

Organiser Dr Roland Marden says: "The idea is to use this landmark election as an opportunity to think critically about the course of American politics and its impact on global affairs from both a contemporary and historical perspective."

Dr Marden a lecturer in American Studies, will be joined by his colleagues Dr Stephen Burman, Dr Clive Webb and the University of Brighton's Tom Hickey. Each participant will be invited to make an informal 5-10 minute presentation, which will then be followed by open discussion and debate.
