Sussex professor honoured in Queen’s Birthday Honours list

Michael Lipton

Professor Michael Lipton of the University of Sussex has been made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to international development.

Professor Lipton, 66, was the founding director in 1995 of the Poverty Research Unit which conducts research into all aspects of poverty.

He has worked at Sussex since the early 1960s, specialising in agricultural research, nutrition economics, poverty, and economic demography in developing countries, including Bangladesh, Botswana, India, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka and South Africa.
