Hands-on opportunities at technology open day

The latest in digital technologies will be tried out by eminent educators, business people and policy makers at the University of Sussex on May 2.

The Human Centred Technology (HCT) Research Group at Sussex is hosting an open day and the second Interactive Educational Content Forum, which aims to encourage debate about how interactive technologies can enhance business and learning environments.

The event will also give visitors a chance to get some hands-on experience of interactive software developed in the HCT's laboratories.

A number of projects are currently underway, including Riddles, which encourages children's reading comprehension through jokes, and eSpace, which involves designing information systems that are of benefit to both salespeople and their customers.

The HCT research group specialises in the development of frameworks that increase our understanding about how people interact with and communicate through technology.

The group is interdisciplinary and is an intellectual home for faculty members drawn from computer sciences, psychology, artificial intelligence and philosophy.

It hosts two research labs.  The Interact Lab is concerned with interaction between people, technologies and representations. The IDEAs lab (Interactive Digital Educational Applications) involves innovative ideas in education software and interactive cognitive applications.

Anyone interested in attending the open day (afternoon session only), should contact Julie Coultas (j.c.coultas@sussex.ac.uk).
