‘The Legacy of Victoria Climbie’ – major lecture announced

Following the release of the Victoria Climbie report, a major public lecture will take place next month at the University of Sussex discussing the findings of the report.

Neil Garnham QC, a leading expert and a counsel to the Climbie Inquiry, will speak at the lecture entitled 'The Legacy of Victoria Climbie'. This lecture provides the first opportunity, following publication of the report, for him to speak to a public audience about the Inquiry and its implications.

The lecture has been organised by Dr. Elaine Sharland -  a lecturer in the School of Social Work and Social Care at the University of Sussex. She has followed the Climbie Inquiry closely and is an expert in the field of social work and care.

The independent statutory Inquiry, chaired by Lord Laming, was set up to investigate the circumstances leading to the death of Victoria Climbie and to recommend action to prevent such a tragedy happening again. The report is likely to have far-reaching consequences for child protection services nationally and locally, with lessons to be learned by all professionals actively involved in children's lives.

The Lecture will take place at the Chichester Lecture Theatre, University of Sussex, at 6pm on Monday 24 February. Registration enquiries to Tania Golds: Email:  T.J.Golds@sussex.ac.uk  Tel: 01273 606755 extn. 2195

This event is sponsored by Crown Office Row Chambers, Brighton.
