. Jobsday helps students find employment

12 June 2001
For immediate release

The University of Sussex will hold its termly Jobsday recruitment fair on Wednesday 13 June.

Designed to help students find part-time work, vacation work and graduate positions by making direct contact with potential employers, Jobsday offers local and national employers the opportunity to make contact with a large volume of job-seeking students. Previous Jobsdays have attracted around 1500 students.

One of the companies attending the day will be GoodBean coffee, which has three branches in Brighton - in Nile Street, Trafalgar Street and Bond Street. A new branch in George Street in Hove is due to open in August.

University of Sussex student Marianne Wilks, who works at GoodBean, says about her job, "You have to be good with customers, and it can get very busy so you have to work quickly." Marianne had two weeks training when she started and is now a fully trained Barista (coffee maker). "I do 16 hours a week and they're pretty flexible about when people can work," adds Marianne.

Anna Charnley from GoodBean says, "We are delighted to be taking part in the University of Sussex Jobsday. We believe that investment in people is the key to running a successful business and the Jobsday is an excellent opportunity to find local talent. GoodBean are proud to support the University of Sussex and we are determined to continue building long-term links with their employment services."

Jobsday organiser Andrea Wall says, "Jobsday provides a vital link between the University and employers. More and more students are seeking part-time work whilst they study and local employers welcome this opportunity to speak to their target audience."
