University Amateur Radio Society G4AQG Summer BBQ

The University Amateur Radio Society G4AQG is holding a Summer Barbecue at the club stationwhich is situated near to the Sports Pavilion, on Friday 2 August from 6pm.

The station has very good antennas well suited to global communications: a Yagi antenna for 20/15/10m on a 60 ft tower, a 160m doublet,  dipoles for 40m, 30m and 17m and an Inverted L with 85ft vertical. A local farmer has allowed us to install very long receiving aerials (Beverages) so that we can listen to very weak signals from around the world.

We recently constructed a small extension to the shack with a good collection of test gear to aid construction of equipment,

There are a few other University Amateur Radio stations but we think that Sussex has by far the best facilities. We’ve used the station in competitions, and have won the “CQ World Wide 160m DX contest” for England three years running.

We plan to launch a student union society this autumn and want to enable more staff and students to use the station and enjoy Amateur Radio.

All welcome, staff and students -  anyone with an interest in radio communication or technology.

Please RSVP to g4aqg@sussex.ac.uk or contact Peter Reed (Life Sciences) or Jeremy Maris (ITS)

More details of the Society are available from our website, http://www.g4aqg.sussex.ac.uk
