The Sunday Times University Guide 2002 (published on 15 Sep) has ranked the University of Sussex five places higher nationally than last year, with improvements across the board in teaching and research.
The league table places Sussex at number 31 nationally and at number 5 in the South East. The Sunday Times commented on Sussex's "world-class expertise across a wide range of disciplines".
Vice-Chancellor Professor Alasdair Smith said, "The University of Sussex is delighted with these results. The quality of our teaching and research has been scored highly in recent official assessments over the past 12 months, recognising the great efforts made by staff at Sussex."
"We are confident that future developments such as the new Brighton & Sussex Medical School and the Freeman Centre will further consolidate Sussex's position as a leading research university," he added.
