Two Royal Society fellows for Sussex

Two academics are to join Sussex as Royal Society University Research Fellows (URFs).

Dr Christian Byrnes and Dr Edward Morrow are among 40 new URFs for 2011, announced today (8 November) by the Royal Society, the UK's national academy of science.

Dr Byrnes, a physicist, will be working on 'Understanding the early universe - preparing theory to meet new observations'; Dr Morrow's research is on 'Sexual antagonism and the genetic basis of fitness variation'.

The "extremely competitive" Royal Society scheme aims to provide outstanding scientists, who have the potential to become leaders in their chosen fields, with the opportunity to build an independent research career.
