Crime and Punishment (M6022)

Spring teaching

This module will involve close examination of the punishment of crime and the means through which punishment is inflicted.

The module begins with an overview of key theoretical approaches to the philosophy of punishment before moving on to examine both non-custodial and custodial punishments with a special focus on imprisonment.

The module ends with a consideration of arguments around the abolition of prisons.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 20 hours of contact time and about 130 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
