Spring teaching

As part of this module, you carry out an independent, original, in-depth research project in consultation with a research supervisor on a specialised topic in biology, ecology or zoology.

The research project involves bespoke, project-specific training in practical skills, the generation of hypotheses, the production of data, statistical analysis and interpretation of results, and the presentation of results in a research seminar and a dissertation written in the form of a scientific paper.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 450 hours of work. This breaks down into about 12 hours of contact time and about 438 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2020/21. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
