UniTV claims second prize in national competition
The University’s student TV station has won £5,000 in a national competition to find the most enterprising student society.
Members of UniTV were presented with the cash on 2 July at the RBS Enterprising Student Society Accreditation (ESSA) awards ceremony.
The accreditation scheme, run by Find Invest Grow and sponsored by the RBS Group and LinkedIn, recognises the enterprising activities of university societies in the UK.
As part of their entry, the UniTV team submitted a video showcasing the station's productions and reflecting on the biggest achievements and challenges from the past year.
UniTV came second in the Gold Awards category, competing with 310 societies from all over the UK.
Most of the finalists were business and management-oriented and UniTV was the only one that specialises in media production.
Alex Anpilogov, UniTV founder and station manager from 2010-12, said: “Competing on the same level with enterprising societies from universities such as Cambridge and Warwick signifies the seriousness of our approach to what we do and how we do it.
“The award is a result of a collective effort and passion for media of over 60 students who have impacted the development of UniTV in the past two years.
“While we are yet to find the perfect way of running UniTV and providing consistent output, this award is a sign of us being on the right track.
“I am very proud of the team's achievements and I am incredibly excited to see what UniTV will be up to in the next couple of years.”
Cal McLoughlin, who will be station manager for 2012-13, added: "Everyone on the UniTV team is proud of our achievement and how it marks what we have accomplished throughout the year.”
UniTV plan to invest the prize money in new equipment to allow them to start producing more live broadcasts.
