Here are details of upcoming Mathematics events, organised by the University of Sussex's Department of Mathematics.

We have a wide variety of events, so there is something for everyone - teachers, students and public alike!


Teacher CPD day at the University of Sussex: A-level Statistics

Friday 13th July, 2018

Maths Hub Teacher CPD flier Developed in collaboration between the Maths Hub and the University of Sussex, at this teacher CPD event we will present new ideas for teaching A-level statistics.

Topics will include:

  • Hypothesis Testing
  • The Large Data Set
  • Random Variables and the Central Limit Theorem

The cost will be £20 for the day. Lunch and coffees will be provided. Participants with dietary requirements should get in touch with Sarah Pelling (S.J.Pelling@sussex.ac.uk).

We will provide teaching materials for the themes of the three topic sessions. For directions to the university campus see here.

Please note: We will confirm the meeting point for the event (which may be in one of our teaching buildings, rather than the mathematics department) by email at least 3 days in advance.  Please do contact us on mathsoutreach@sussex.ac.uk if you have not recieved this email by wednesday 11th July.

 


Girls in STEM day at the University of Sussex

Thursday 28th June or Friday 6th July, 2018

Maths Hub Girls in STEM day 2018Developed in collaboration between the Maths Hub and the University of Sussex, at this Girls in STEM event we will present a day full of mathematics related activies aimed at young women studying GCSE mathematics.

Topics will include:

  • Career opportunities
  • Mathematical epidemiology
  • The mathematics of Voting & elections

A PDF flier is also available for you to circulate.

The event is free of charge. Students should bring a packed lunch.

To register places use the booking form on http://www.sussex.ac.uk/maths/outreach/contact. Write Girls in STEM day and the preferred date in the Activity Requests box.

We can contribute up to £5 towards the travel costs per attending student. To apply for travel support make a request in the Additional Information box at the bottom of the booking form.

STEM Teacher's conference at the University of Sussex

Note that there will be both a separate Maths and Physics session on the day, as well as shared keynote lectures.
