Attendance by Dr Istvan Kiss at Royal Society Communication Skills course run by ex-media and ex-BBC experts

Dr Istvan Kiss

Dr Istvan Kiss recently attended a Communication Skills course at the Royal Society run by two ex-media and ex-BBC experts in public communication of science. Part of the course involved all speakers having to prepare a short article (up to 1000 words) about their own work or key research for a general audience and with the potential to be considered as publication material for the science section of newspapers such as the Guardian or Times. Also the participants had to prepare a ten-minute presentation to be delivered from a lectern without using electronic aids such as Power Point but with the use of some creative and illustrative visual aids.

The lectern presentations were a real eye-opener to many and it was surprising to see their positive impact on the audience due to a more natural way of presenting material in an engaging and interesting way.
