A student who is undertaking an MA in Corruption and Governance at the Sussex Centre for the Study of Corruption (SCSC) has been appointed as an advisor to the African Bar Association (AFBA). 

David Ugolor, who is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Africa Network for Environmental and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) as well as studying at Sussex, was confirmed as AFBA’s senior advisor on corruption and governance last Monday, 27 July. 

The appointment is indicative of AFBA’s commitment to the anti-corruption stance of the current Nigerian administration, led by President Muhammadu Buhari. 

In a statement confirming the appointment, AFBA’s Media Director Samuel Abasilim said that Ugolor was “in the best position to assist AFBA in attaining its goal of zero tolerance to corruption and bad governance presently bedevilling African countries”. 

He added that Ugolor would support the Association’s long-term objectives by identifying training opportunities, exchange programmes, fellowships and scholarship opportunities for members, as well as developing policy guidelines for AFBA’s work on public advocacy, lobbying and education.
