Staff and students from Sussex Law School are gearing up to take part in the Brighton Legal Walk next month, to raise vital funds for Sussex Pro Bono.
The Brighton Legal Walk, which takes place on 15 June as part of a wider national initiative, will see a team of staff and students take part in 10km walk through the city.
Starting at the Magistrates Court in Hove, the team will head out along the seafront, finishing at Brighton Housing Trust’s newly converted offices in St Stephen’s Hall, Monpelier Place, in the town centre.
The team from Sussex – comprising Lucy Finchett-Maddock, Tom Frost, Verona Ní Drisceoil, Helena Howe, Philip Bremner, Charlotte Skeet, Tanya Palmer, Amir Paz-Fuchs, Donald McGillivray, Bonnie Holligan, Elizabeth Craig, Craig Lind, John Child, Kamala Dawar and Aisling O’Sullivan – will be raising funds for Sussex Pro Bono.
Sussex Pro Bono is the umbrella structure for a number of initiatives and schemes taking place at Sussex Law School. Covering a wide range of legal areas, including environmental issues, housing concerns and the Innocence Project, Sussex Pro Bono enables students and staff to volunteer their time to offer a valuable legal service to those most in need in the Brighton and Hove area.
The team have emphasised the importance of Sussex Pro Bono on their sponsorship page, where they state: “There are many poor and vulnerable people in Brighton and Hove who rely on help from pro bono advice agencies.
“[This is] an ethos of altruistic legal advocacy that Sussex Pro Bono support as part of its practical training and collaborations with local advice agencies and other Brighton-based community projects.”
