Campus is a hive of activity this week as students and staff celebrate One World Week.
One World Week offers a series of events and activities celebrating the international outlook and cultural diversity of the University's campus community.
The aim of the week is to:
- celebrate the different cultures on the Sussex campus
- develop an understanding of global issues
- highlight international opportunities for personal development
- encourage community engagement
- develop a sense of global citizenship.
Chinese students performed and danced this lunchtime (Monday 10 March) at the official One World Week launch event in Jubilee.
Students, and some staff, have also been taking advantage of the good weather to shoot some hoops using pop-up basketball nets in Library Square.
Language taster sessions will be running through the week. If you are a complete beginner but want to try learning Japanese, French, German, Mandarin, British Sign Language and many more, pop along to one of the classes - see the website for times and locations.
Sussexsport will be dancing, cycling, running and rowing all around the world in a series of specially prepared One-World themed exercise classes.
Sussex Food will be offering a special One World menu at Eat Central as well as putting on a cooking demonstration of recipes submitted by students.
Other programme highlights will include: international film screenings; theatrical performances, a live international game of ‘Call My Bluff’ with a Spanish university; a language cafe; Holi celebrations; debates; competitions; a live-music showcase; inspiring TED talk screenings; zumba and salsa sessions; and opportunities to find out about working and studying overseas.
There will also be a series of lectures on world topics including: ‘When polite words are rude’ by Dr Lynne Murphy and ‘Save our bumblebees’ by Professor Dave Goulson.
Most of the events are to be held in the Jubilee building but there will be other activities across the campus, including in Falmer House, the Meeting House and the Sport Centre.
