School of Life Sciences

Digital Engagement Ambassadors

What are Digital Engagement Ambassadors?

Digital Engagement Ambassadors will be responsible for assisting with the School’s social media and other forms of digital engagement, with a primary responsibility of supporting a new School of Life Sciences Instagram account.

This role provides students with valuable work experience, which can be developed into various useful vocational skills including communication, digital marketing, teamwork and time management. These skills are valuable to employers and can put students ahead when it comes to applying for jobs after graduation.

Digital Engagement Ambassadors can receive a record of their achievements for use in job applications and references can be provided on request.

How does it work?

Successful candidates will work with the School Website, Communications and Events Officer, and wider Recruitment and Admissions team, to promote the School online primarily through Instagram.

They will follow a set communications plan and provide text and images/videos for planned Instagram posts. They will also help plan future posts, identifying aspects of their experiences at Sussex that will be relevant for current and prospective students.

The Digital Engagement Ambassadors will share draft Instagram posts to a Yammer site which, following a review, will be shared on the School's Instagram account. They should identify effective hashtags, @handles, and relevant websites for each post. They should also source or take appropriate photographs for each post and on occassion may be asked to create short videos.

They may also work on other digital engagement projects, in collaboration with the School Website, Communications and Events Officer.

While the role is flexible around academic committments, the Digital Engagement Ambassadors will be expected to meet agreed deadlines and plenty of notice is required if they are unable to meet the deadline.

This is a paid position, hourly on submission of a pay claim form (with a pay rate currently at £9.32 per hour). Digital Engagement Ambassadors can expect between 5 to 8 hours of work per month, depending on the time of year.

How do I apply?

All prospective ambassadors are required to follow a selection process. You will need to read the role description, complete the application form and return it via email (using your Sussex email account) to Jessica Gowers by 5pm on Friday 11 September.

When emailing your application, please use the following format in the 'subject' line: post title / your name.

Following a shortlisting proccess, applicants may be invited to an online interview and will be asked to create a short video. Further details will be provided to shortlisted applicants.
