The University of Sussex Chemistry courses have received official notification of accreditation for 2019 to 2024 from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
Feedback from the RSC included the well-thought-out programmes and experimental design within the curriculum, high levels of student satisfaction and student support and a commitment to teaching from staff, the majority of whom hold HEA Fellowships.
Prof Wendy Brown, Subject Chair for Chemistry, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Chemistry at Sussex and serves as an excellent endorsement of our teaching team!”
RSC accreditation provides students (and employers) with the confidence that the course has provided them with the standards necessary to work as professional chemists.
Dr Iain Day, Chair of the Chemistry Board of Study, said: “It is great news that the RSC have reaccredited our courses for the next five years. It demonstrates the thought we have put into our modules to ensure they provide our students with the skills they need to excel in the chemical sciences after they graduate.”
The RSC is the world’s leading chemistry community; with over 54,000 members and a knowledge business that spans the globe, they are the UK’s professional body for chemical scientists.
Through accreditation, the RSC promote good practices in the university education of chemical scientists, and make sure that future practising scientists are knowledgeable and competent. Their accreditation system is well established and respected worldwide.
