Library

Digitisation

The library is happy to digitise any material under the terms of the CLA Scanning Licence. The licensing is complex but means that we are usually able to reproduce either a single chapter from a book or a single article from a journal. We will either scan the item ourselves or obtain a scan from an outside source such as the British Library. Please note that we will not digitise an article if we have a subscription for the journal.

Under the terms of the Licence, we can only digitise readings included in reading lists using the Aspire reading list system. If we cannot digitise under the Licence, we will deposit a paper copy in the Library's Core collection instead. We are unable to place any photocopy in the Core collection unless it is attached to a current reading list.

Please do not send in photocopies of articles or book chapters as, under the terms of the CLA Licence, we are unable to add personal copies to the Library collection. Please see our copyright pages for more information.

What do you need to do?

Please indicate on your reading list if you want your students to read a single chapter or article. This cannot be done instantly, so please allow the same amount of time as you would for a book purchase request.

To request digitisation for a book chapter, please supply the following information:

Author | Title | Year | Edition | Publisher | Chapter title | Page numbers

For a journal article, please supply the following information:

Author | Year | Title | Journal | Volume | Issue | Page numbers
