Note on Dream Material
Mass-Observation obtained virtually all its material about dreams from members of its voluntary Panel. The material in this box could, therefore, be almost as appropriately filed within the Directive Reply sequence. In fact, dream diaries written by Panel members do appear in the 1939 Directive Reply Sequence (July-September) and again in 1940. However, I decided to follow Mass-Observation's own pattern and retain some of the dream material as a Topic Collection, especially as a good deal of the contents of these files are not original papers but typed extracts taken by M-O from the Directive Replies. Nevertheless, readers should not consult this box without also viewing the relevant section on microfilm
