We are currently in Phase 1a (more info) of the Refurbishment, which lasts until the end of March 2010.

This Phase concentrates on the main entrance and surrounding area.

We currently have a number of collections and services in Temporary locations:

    • As part of the transistion, any books borrowed before Monday 22nd February will need to be re-issued (not renewed) on the new self service machines to prevent the alarms being activated on exit.
    • New Self Issue kiosks : The new kiosks has a much easier interface, and some allow you to pay any outstanding fines using coins and notes. You can quickly check out many books at once, just place them all on the shelf within the unit.
    • Lending Desk and Enquiry Desk : right in front of the main entrance.
    • Core Collection : located at the north end of the building, turn right as you walk in the main entrance and follow the signs. Core Collection bookings are currently suspended.
    • AV Collection : currently located near the Short Loan Collection
    • The Silent room in the north corner of the building is no longer available for study. You can find other silent areas at the back of the building and directly above the Silent room (see floor plans [pdf])
    • The small ITS cluster near the main entrance has been removed,

Current work and changes made as part of the refurbishment:

    • The space which used to contain the Lending Desk, Core Collection and AV near the front of the building is currently boarded up for the first part of the refurbishment. There will be some noise from this area, though we will try and keep this to a minimum. For quiet study we suggest the study areas towards the back of the building.

See the Phase 1a page for an overview of what's currently happening. For a plan of the whole refurbishment see the Timetable page.

The Library will be open and offering full service throughout the refurbishment, although inevitably parts of the building will have to be cordoned off for periods of time to allow works to take place. These will be advertised well in advance so please keep a look out on these pages for more detail as we make it available. Through careful planning of the phases we are confident that the book stock will be fully accessible during the project and we are also working with the University to identify alternative quiet study areas on campus should students or staff need them.
