The MLA (Modern Language Association) format is widely used within the humanities and arts fields including English, philosophy, languages and history.

In-text citations are placed inside parenthesis noting the author's last name and the relevant page number. The reference list is ordered alphabetically at the end of the document.

If the source has no author, use a shortened title of the work instead of an author name - use quotation marks if it's a short work or underline it if it's a longer work.
