Chicago styling gives a short citation consisting of a name of the author(s) and the publication date. The full details of the source are given in a reference list at the end of the document.
If you are paraphrasing, format your text as follows:
Reswick [1] explains that this is critical as the designer may not be familiar with all the needs, constraints, and preferences of a disabled individual.
or
This is critical since the designer may not be familiar with all the needs, constraints, and preferences of a disabled individual [1].
You can then refer back to the same number in subsequent references.
Reswick also found that...... [1]
If you are citing the work of more than one author, you can use a hyphen to separate the references (if they are in order) or use commas:
...as discussed in the literature [5, 6]
...as discussed in the literature [6, 9, 11]
...as discussed in the literature [7-11]
...as discussed in the literature [5, 7, 10-12]
The numbers are usually placed inside square brackets as shown. If quoting a source directly, then use quotation marks as follows:
Reswick [1] states that "designers may not be familiar with the needs, constraints, and preferences of a disabled individual".
