The SCONUL scheme
The Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL) runs an access scheme that grants borrowing privileges to over 170 libraries around the country to users working or studying at participating higher education libraries. The University of Sussex Library is in the SCONUL scheme. As a postgraduate, researcher or member of staff, you are entitled to use this scheme to its full potential.
The M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries is an organisation which aims to improve library and information services within the M25 region and provide a wider range of access, including borrowing privileges, for academic staff and researchers across the East and Southeast of England.
The British Library holds 14 million books, 920,000 journal/newspaper titles, 58 million patents, 3 million sound recordings and much more. The British Library has dedicated web pages for researchers which can be a useful place to start. You can see the holdings of the British Library through the Integrated Catalogue.
