When to evaluate
Evaluation should be an ongoing process as sources are discovered throughout your research. A technique used by some researchers is to read the full-text of any item that may seem relevant. However, this may not be an effective use of time as you could end up reading a lot of irrelevant material.
The evaluation process varies from one field to another.
The suggested evaluation process in this tutorial has two levels:
During the initial assessment, you don't necessarily have to read the full-text. Instead, using a set of criteria you make an informed decision as to whether to read the full text. This can be useful when you are searching databases or search engines as it can help refine your search strategy and ensure you select appropriate sources to focus on during the content evaluation.
During the content evaluation stage, examine the content and read the full text.
