Planning a search
An effective search strategy is vital to any research project. Search parameters must be planned carefully before attempting the actual search process. The research topic is a good starting point for defining search parameters, also referred to as keywords.
Once a clear research goal is defined, keywords can be identified. Library catalogues, databases and the Internet can then be used in the search.
The following research topic is considered:
Cheating in exams at Universities
Three main concepts are identified from this topic:
- Cheating
- Exams
- University
These three provide a fundamental foundation for designing this particular search.
However, related terms and synonyms of each keyword must be considered to make the search effective.
