About the Sussex Law Society

We help to enhance the experience of law and non-law students by exposing you to career options and providing opportunities for develop your soft skills.

We have various links and affiliations with law firms, recruitment agencies, law schools and we are also looking into developing a pro bono scheme, as well as searching for direct sponsorship.

By joining the society, you can benefit from social and educational opportunities and we are committed to making your student experience the best it can be.

With the assistance of the society, you will quickly start to feel at home and you will be joining a body run by students, for students, where like-minded individuals can meet.

Society events

Discounts are available for all society events held throughout the year, and if you are a member, you will become eligible to stand for the committee of next year as well as participate in voting.

We offer many career and educational opportunities and our range of events varies from social events and combined socials with the Medic Society, to career events including workshops, talks and one-to-one sessions.

An example of our close link with law firms includes the sponsorship we have gained as a society from City firm CMS Cameron McKenna, Jones Day, Linklaters, Macfarlanes, Mayer Brown and Norton Rose Fulbright.

The society is now also affiliated with organisations including Aspiring Solicitors, LawCareers.Net, The Lex100, Mason Hayes Solicitors and The Student Journal of Law.

This year, we have also seen talks from:

  • Gwyn Day, Graduate Consultant
  • Marcus Hayes, Managing Partner
  • Michael Irwin, Activist
  • Simon Kirby Member of Parliament
  • Toby Hornett, Head of Legal at Canon UK.
