Sussex Centre for Language Studies

Pre-sessional English

If English is not your first language, you may need to improve your skills on a Pre-sessional language course before starting your degree at Sussex. Pre-sessional courses are specialist courses to prepare international and overseas students for study in UK higher education. Only those who already hold an offer to study at Sussex may apply for these courses.

British Council accredited

There are two Pre-sessional courses: a 10-week course and a 5-week course. Which course is the right one for you will depend on your incoming language level, and the level you need to achieve for your chosen degree programme. The table below shows the length of Pre-sessional study you need, based on the gap between your current IELTS level and the English language requirement for your course at Sussex.
