Most of these classes will be offered for 9 weeks, from Monday 18th January 2010 and will be one and a half hours per week. It may be possible to extend the classes for a further 6 weeks in the summer term, if a sufficient number of people are interested. In this case, an additional fee will be payable.
Fees: £95 for 9 weeks / £85 reduced (unless otherwise specified)
(Reduced fees are available for those on full state benefits, senior
citizens on state retirement pensions only, full-time students,
employees and alumni of the University of Sussex.)
Note that the intensive continuation classes (French and Spanish) run for 10 weeks so cost a little more; the British Sign Language courses run for 11 weeks (and each class is longer) so are priced accordingly. Those courses begin week commencing 11th January 2010; see below for fees.
Stage 1 courses For complete beginners who wish to gain basic communication and comprehension skills, with emphasis on the spoken language.
Stage 2 courses Suitable for those who have not studied the language for a number of years, or have completed stage 1 recently. Basic structures will be revised and progress made towards an intermediate level in the four key skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Most courses will be held in the Russell Building (a few are in Arundel Building or Bramber House).
What are the aims and objectives?
Our courses, open to everyone, have all the advantages of learning a language with other people under the guidance of tutors who are experienced, well-qualified and usually native speakers.
The courses focus on spoken language, expert tuition and an exploration of culture and society. Grammar is included as without it progress is only limited - however, no class is based entirely on grammar.
We will help you to acquire a language and explore the culture
and society of the country concerned in a relaxed atmosphere. Our aim
is to help you to learn how to communicate in your chosen language,
making your learning experience as beneficial and enjoyable as
possible.
