Biography

I am a Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie research fellow, based at the School of Media, Film and Music and the Sussex Humanities Lab. I studied sociology at the University of Auckland (New Zealand) and media economics at the University of Siegen (Germany), where I also completed my PhD in digital media studies in 2012. From 2013 until 2019 I have worked at the University of Maastricht (Netherlands) and hold an honorary position as assistant professor in Digital Culture there until my return in 2021. My research explores social practices emerging in interaction with digital technology. With an educational background in sociology, media studies and economics, I am passionate about empirically engaged and interdisciplinary approaches. My current MSCA project HACKIT focuses on practices of informal learning in hacker- and makerspaces.
