Service Update: Updating Kaspersky on laptops

Posted: Thu 20 Sep 2018, 4:35pm.

Kaspersky Antivirus is no longer a supported security system at the University. We have replaced it on desktop computers across the campus and we are working to replace it on laptops.

If you have an IT Services laptop and you see notifications that your version of Kaspersky has expired, please follow these steps:

  • If you have Windows 10, please click on Start, type uninstall and select Add or Remove Programs. Find Kaspersky in the list and uninstall it. Windows Defender should automatically activate, and this will provide security for your laptop. You can check if Windows Defender is active by clicking on Start, typing defender and going to the Windows Defender Security Centre.
  • If you have Windows 7, please contact the IT Service Desk.

Once your version of Kaspersky has expired, it will no longer receive updates and the security of your device will be compromised. Please follow the above steps as soon as Kaspersky notifies you that it has expired.
