There are widespread problems using campus computers and getting access to files.
We're investigating urgently to restore services as soon as we can.
UPDATE: 28 Sep 2015 - 1:00pm
Staff and students all over the campus are having difficulty using computers and getting access to files due to a serious fault on the University's file systems.
If you're already logged in, you may be experiencing delays and freezes with applications which are trying to get access to details saved in your personal directory. The problems will be affecting internet browsers, office applications and other programs too.
We know this is causing huge disruption across the campus and we're working to restore services urgently. The suppliers of the file systems used at Sussex are working closely with us to fix this problem and enable students and staff to continue working as soon as possible.
We're doing everything possible to return services to normal over lunchtime.
UPDATE: 28 Sep 2015 - 1:31pm
Services are starting to return to normal after widespread problems using computers and files over lunchtime.
A serious fault with the University's file systems has led to considerable disruption for staff and students but personal files (N drives) are beginning to stabilise and you should be able to start using computers soon if they aren't already working. Group files are also now available.
If you still have problems getting to files, please try logging out and then log back in to resume the connection or contact us if the problems persist.
UPDATE: 28 Sep 2015 - 5:18pm
File access and logins have been operating continuously since lunchtime but there have been significant dips in performance at times during the afternoon. This has been affecting staff and students using Office applications and a number of other programs.
We're sorry for the exasperation this has been causing this afternoon but we're expecting services to stabilise later today and are working hard to keep systems running as smoothly as we can.
UPDATE: 29 Sep 2015 - 3:54pm
There are more problems with access to personal file space (N drives) and group files (G drives) this afternoon.
We're working urgently to fix the problem and will restore services as soon as we can.
We lost connections to file systems supporting N and G drives at around 3.50pm but we're working to restore them in the next few minutes if possible.
Access to file systems is returning to normal and all staff and students should be able to login to campus PCs and use files.
We lost connections to file systems at around 3.50 this afternoon in the second incident of its kind this week. We moved as quickly as possible to restore services and most people were able to use their files by 4.15pm.
There have been a series of problems with file systems since August and the suppliers of the system have been working closely with us to resolve them as soon as possible. We've been making progress but there is still some work to complete before services are running smoothly again and in the meantime we're sorry for all the disruption these issues are causing.
