We experienced some problems with network connections on Saturday 15 September. Since around 4:00pm, new students arriving in residences faced difficulties using the wired internet access in their rooms.
We have made an emergency fix to reduce the effects of the problem and most users should now be able to connect to the internet as normal. However, we estimate that about 20% of connections will still be affected by a residual fault so you may find that you are still unable to connect to the internet or complete the network setup process.
If you are one of the unlucky ones, please take a break and then try again after a while - you are likely to get online eventually and we are hoping to restore the service fully by mid-afternoon on Sunday.
We apologise for all the frustration these problems have been causing, especially on such an important weekend. The IT Service Desk in Shawcross will be open from 10am to 5pm on Sunday 16 September to help with connection problems.
UPDATE: 15 Sep 2012 - 7:22pm
There are continued problems connecting to the internet from wired connections in the residences this evening, Saturday 15 September. Since around 4:00pm, many students arriving on the campus have been unable to connect to the web or complete the network setup process using the network cables supplied in the residences.
It should still be possible to connect to the internet using the wi-fi in the residences - follow the details in the How to connect booklet to get online. This should give you some access, even if the download speed is not so good as the cable connection.
We apologise for the frustration this is causing, especially on such an important weekend and we will restore the wired access to full capacity as soon as we can on Sunday 16 September.
