How to...

Connecting to wi-fi with an iPhone or iPad


Before you start:

  • Make sure you know your IT username and password (confirmed when you registered).
  • On your device, go to Settings and then Wi-Fi and connect to the setup network (sussex.ac.uk-wifi-setup)

Open a web browser and you should see a Sussex web page. Click the GO button for staff/student (or go to https://www.sussex.ac.uk/roaming if you don't see this page).

Login with your username and password (and accept the terms and conditions for the University network the first time you login).

Tap on the button to Register a computer.

Complete the details for your device and tap register.

Tap Register again to log your computer's unique address.

This should be filled in automatically so choose Wireless and tap Register.

Once your device's address has been registered, you have to put in the right settings so your iPhone or iPad knows how to connect. This is done automatically using a special program called XpressConnect.

Tap on the Setup link at the top of the page.

Tap the red button to install and run XpressConnect.

You will need to enter your IT username when requested. Note that @sussex.ac.uk is added to the end of your username automatically.

Tap on Install to add the profile for eduroam.

Tap on the Install button at the top of the page to confirm.

Enter your IT password when prompted.

When the process has finished, you will be connected to eduroam. You can also try connecting to an external site such as www.google.com to make sure you're on the web.

Make sure you're protected from viruses before you connect to the Sussex network.

You should only have to follow this process the first time you connect to the network. After that, your device should connect whenever you plug in.
