Connecting to the internet with a network cable


You can connect your laptop or desktop computer to the intenet with the network sockets in rooms in the residences or in campus offices.

  • Make sure you know your IT username and password (confirmed when you registered) and check the date and time are set correctly.
  • Check that the wi-fi on your computer is turned off and that the date and time are set correctly, then connect your computer to the network socket on the wall (in residences, you should have been provided with a pink cable with which to connect).

Open a web browser (such as Internet Explorer) and you should see a Sussex web page. Click the GO button for staff/student (or wait for a few minutes and try again if you aren't redirected.

Login with your username and password and make sure the box to register your device is checked. Click login.

Click the button to Set up your connection or follow the instructions to set up your device manually.

Make sure you're protected from viruses before you connect to the internet.

You should only have to follow this process the first time you use the cable. After that, your device should connect whenever you plug in.
