How do I unzip a Zip file using Windows?

screenshot showing the user has right-clicked on a zip file and is about to choose Extract AllA zip file is a compressed bundle of files and folders. Files are often zipped to make it easier for them to be emailed or transferred.

In Windows 7 or in the Windows 8 desktop, you can view the contents of a zip file just by double-clicking on it.

To edit the contents, or to run a program in a zip file, you first need to unzip it:

  • right-click on the file
  • choose Extract All

You can then choose the location to save the contents.
