I can't connect to eduroam - what can I do?


1. Make sure your username is correct

Make sure you’re logging in with your full username @sussex.ac.uk
E.g. ano123@sussex.ac.uk

2. Use your Sussex Password

When connecting to eduroam, make sure you use your Sussex password, not the password for your laptop or another device

3. iPhone instructions

Some iOS devices have trouble connecting to eduroam. If you are on campus and struggling to connect your iPhone or iPad, please try these steps:

If you have a data plan on your device

  1. Before you connect to any Sussex Wifi Network, go to www.sussex.ac.uk/eduroam
  2. Click on the "Go" button presented to you on the landing page.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the instructions page and click on the Red button
  4. The configuration profile will download and request to be installed, you will need:
    1. To enter your pin code for your device
    2. Enter your IT Services username in the form of: ano123@sussex.ac.uk
    3. Enter your IT Services password
  5. After successful installation of the profile, you can now join the eduroam wireless network.

If you do not have a data plan on your device

  1. Connect to the wireless network "ITS" or "sussex.ac.uk-wifi-setup-[date]"
  2. Provide the following details:
    1. First Name
    2. Last Name
    3. Email Address
  3. Click "Connect".
  4. Launch a Web Browser (e.g. Safari) and go to www.sussex.ac.uk/eduroam
  5. Click on the "Go" button presented to you on the landing page.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the instructions page and click on the Red button
  7. The configuration profile will download and request to be installed, you will need:
    1. To enter your pin code for your device
    2. Enter your IT Services username in the form of: ano123@sussex.ac.uk
    3. Enter your IT Services password
  8. After successful installation of the profile, you can now join the eduroam wireless network.

 

4. Forget and reconnect

If you can’t get connected, please try Forgetting the following networks on your device: eduroam, o2 wifi and sussex.ac.uk-wifi-setup-[date].  Then go through the setup process again to reconnect.

To Forget a network please follow these steps:

iPhone:

1. Go to settings
2. Select Wi-Fi
3. Press the blue ‘I’ next to Eduroam
4. Select 'forget this network'
5. Confirm by selecting 'Forget'
6. Repeat for O2 Wifi and Sussex.ac.uk-wifi-setup

We recommend you also remove the eduroam profile.  To do this:

1. Go to Settings
2. Go to General
3. Select Profile
4. Select the profile called eduroam
5. Press the red Remove Profile button
6. If prompted, enter your pin code
7. Confirm that you want to remove the profile

Android:

1. Go to settings
2. Select Wi-Fi settings (cog logo)
3. Tap 'Wi-fi' on the menu (make sure Wi-Fi is turned on)
4. Tap and hold the network you wish to forget
5. Choose 'Forget' network.

Mac:

1. Launch System Preferences
2. Select Network
3. Select Wi-Fi from column on the left
4. Select Advanced (right hand side of window)
5. Select “Eduroam”
6. Click the “-“ button
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for “O2 Wifi and “Sussex-ac-uk-wifi-setup-[date]”
8. Click “OK"

Windows 10

1. Click on Start and go to Settings
2. Select Network and Internet and then go to the WiFi tab
3. Click on Manage known networks
4. Click on the network you want to Forget and the press the grey Forget button

 

5. Check that the date and time are set correctly on your device

 If the date and time are not correct on your device, this may prevent you from connecting.
