Course outline

Laboratory fee: £135
The chemical elements, compounds and mixtures; nomenclature; the mole; chemical formulae, equations for reactions; precipitation, acid/base and redox reactions; reaction stoichiometry; properties of gases; solids, liquids, intermolecular forces; models of atoms and the periodic table; ionic and covalent bonds; shapes of molecules, bond strengths; thermodynamics, first and second laws, enthalpy, entropy, free energy; properties of solutions: phase transitions, solubility, colligative properties.

Pre-requisite

High school mathematics through algebra.
