About ISS

Why study at Sussex?

Sussex is considered one of the most exciting British universities at which to study. It was founded in 1961 and quickly established an international reputation for the quality of its research and for innovative and effective styles of teaching, attracting scholars from all over the world. Key to our mission is the provision of interdisciplinary courses, and small group teaching with individual attention. The 60 courses on offer allow you to get ahead with credit in core courses, or experiment with something new.

The International Summer School provides an opportunity to meet and study with people from different countries and cultures, on a cosmopolitan campus. The University campus is on the edge of Brighton, a friendly city by the sea that could have been designed for students. The campus is a refreshing contrast, set in open parkland, with an excellent range of social and academic facilities. London is less than an hour away from Brighton by train.

Fang's Perspective

'The University of Sussex was really easy to become familiar and comfortable with. The campus is small, which means it's really quick to get to the Students' Union to buy food, use the computer lab, or find help. My favourite thing about studying at the University of Sussex is that it's close to Brighton, where I go every week. It's such a neat place you can't find back at home; a lot of fun shops, good food, and a beach!' Fang Jiang, from the University of California, USA
